Sixth grade hasn’t been as much of a change as I thought it would be. Kids are kids! What did surprise me is the number of notes, letters, pictures, etc I’ve received from the students. I started putting them up behind my desk and they just multiplied like crazy! Even my students who are “too cool” for that type of thing would give something to me on the sly and beam when they noticed it had been taped up behind my desk.
Then I ran into a small problem… I couldn’t reach my teaching materials! I was moving student notes around all the time to actually get to what I needed. Ahh! (I also didn’t think the fire marshall would be too pleased with the loose papers hanging down by the heater…)
First I pulled all of the notes, letters, and pictures down. Then I simply three hold punched them all, and put them into this binder.
The plus is that the kiddos enjoy looking through the notebook. Sometimes they will hoot and holler about something new being added. I think it’s cute how they are all sneaky about adding stuff in there without me knowing about it! Although some of them still leave them on my desk. Now it’s all about personal preference.
My plan is to add a new tab to this each year. That was I have previous notes included at all times. We’ll see how thick it is in a few years!
How do you organize items from students?
