Obviously testing has been creeping up on me for awhile, but how did I just now realize that it’s only two weeks away?! Throw the Easter holiday into the mix (and the fact that I’ll be out two days for professional days), and I’m in a bit of a panic about reviewing before the “big test”. That’s why I spent the last couple days searching high and low for some great math test prep items to help me get ready! There are a lot of freebies below, but be prepared for a couple great products as well!
Let the math test prep fun begin!
Don’t get me wrong – I am happy to report that I’ve covered every standard for the year! (Well, officially that will be true after this week. We’re on the last one as I type…) However, I know there are some things we need to review. We do a daily story problem and daily spiral review, but I want to make sure I review and get in as much math test prep as possible so no one can accidentally “forget” being taught a certain concept.
Of course I want to make math test prep as painless as possible for the kiddos. I’m thinking we’ll do little centers and rotations, but then a large group “mini-lesson” at the end to sum up what all we covered each day. This way I know what they are still struggling with, and we can review and share ideas as a class. Getting the kids to buy in shouldn’t be too hard since they won’t be any math homework (not that they have much anyway) and they’ll be working in groups!
So – here goes. I’m going to share with you all of the different math test prep resources I find to help me out in my classroom. Most of them will be free (I’m cheap!), but I may share a few for-sale products as well… (Especially if I’ve tried them myself!) I’m using these for sixth grade, but I’ve taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th – so I know they’ll work well at those grades as well. It’ll be up to you to decide if the rigor and numbers are difficult enough for your students.

We’ve actually played this one earlier in the year. I own their entire pack of games, and my students love them!

This looks more like an introductory lesson, but I think it’ll serve the purpose of review well.

Other Math Concepts
This freebie looks like it has a lot of promise and versatility. I like both of those qualities!
Jeopardy 5th Grade Review – Looks promising to help cover a variety of topics in one shot. I’ll probably use this in 6th grade if we have the time. It’s Common Core aligned.
The above Skittles Math is a paid product I actually already own. I’m going to use it this year for the first time. It covers a lot of great concepts!
I don’t use a lot of candy in my classroom, so I think this product is going to be a complete hit! I think we’ll do this one afternoon as a “fun” math activity. It’ll allow me to sneak in a double dose of math without the kiddos even realizing what hit them! =)
I’ve been using Laura Candler’s File Cabinet for longer than I’ve actually had my teaching certificate. I was introduced to it back while student teaching and it’s just as valuable now as it was back then! Click here or on the picture above to see some of her great resources!
And just in case you need another math test prep idea or two, check out the math Magic Square Puzzles in my Teachers Pay Teachers store. You can buy a 27 product math test prep bundle by clicking here. There are currently over 30 puzzles for grades 3-6 math, and five of them are FREE!
There you have it! A look at my lesson plans for the next couple weeks. We’ll be rotating through a lot of centers and using a lot of group work to review all of these concepts.
You can see all the math resources in my TpT store by clicking here.

This is truly an amazing list of ideas! I love it!!! I am scared though, I feel like if I go away from traditional review, they won't be ready…… But this will be way ,or motivating!!!! Can't wait to sare with my department.

Kristin – no problem! It was worthy of the shout out!
Hodgesgal – I know what you mean! However, what I'm hearing about Common Core is that we need to do more projects and activities. When I've tried them this year in math, I've seen comprehension go up – so I'm giving it a whirl for review. It'll engage the students way more than my boring, traditional ways. I hope you and your department can find these products beneficial regardless of the format you use them in!
