My 6th graders are still struggling with basic parts of speech. For example, I can give them this sentence: My mom went to the grocery store to get a loaf of bread. I have kids that will not even be able to pick out the nouns, let alone the other parts of speech. It’s frustrating, but we keep plugging along and games seem to be helping!

This was one of those spur of the moment games that I just came up with as we started grammar one day.
I started by writing singular noun, plural noun, singular possessive, and plural possessive on the board.
The students then had two minutes to write as many words as they could. They could only write one word in a column at a time. (Otherwise I was afraid they would sit there and just create a long list of words on one!)

I'm a 6th grade teacher too, and this was our focus last week. I'm going to use this game as a review this week. Great idea! 🙂
