4 Reasons NOT to Use Magic Square Puzzles

Have you considered using Magic Square Puzzles in your classroom? Are you unsure whether they’ll work for you and your students? Today I’m showing you four reasons NOT to use Magic Square Puzzles, because they just might not be for you and your students…

Have you considered using Magic Square Puzzles in your classroom? This post will give you four reasons NOT to use them: like if your students love printable worksheets, are already super engaged with hands-on materials, & do NOT need review practice of basic skills. If that sounds like your classroom, don't even bother clicking through. Otherwise, if you teach preschool, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th grade - you're going to love this post! {It even has links to FREE downloads!}

1. Your students already have too much fun in school.

If your students are already engaged and learning basic concepts in a fun, hands-on manner – you do not need Magic Square Puzzles. After all, kids that are having fun tend to retain information better. And if they love those drill-and-kill worksheets – why on earth would you have them do a fun puzzle instead?

2. Your students have mastered their basic concepts.

Since your students are already pros at each new concept you teach, there’s no need to use Magic Square Puzzles in your classroom! Your students master each concept you throw at them, so they couldn’t possibly need to review their basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, or other math skills. Oh, and ELA – they’ve got irregular verbs, contractions, and other literacy concepts down too!

3. Your students are actively engaged with worksheets.

If your students are begging you for more worksheets day in and day out, you do not need to use Magic Square Puzzles. After all, they already love the boring printables you keep putting in front of them – so why do anything different?

4. Your students are already great critical thinkers.

If your students can solve Sudoku puzzles and other brain teasers with ease, Magic Square Puzzles are probably not right for your classroom. After all – these puzzles are supposed to be a fun, critical thinking challenge. If your students have already mastered that skill, they may get bored with this type of hands-on activity.
